The University of Sydney conducted research that identified a persons high can last anywhere from three to ten hours. There are different factors involved that determine exactly how long it will last such as dosage, method of ingestion, and your overall tolerance to cannabis.
A high from smoking cannabis can generally last for three to four hours where a dabbing session or edible could last anywhere from six to ten hours. Edible highs will last longer and effect you much later than smoking cannabis. Smoking or vaping cannabis can give you the effect you’re looking for in minutes where edibles can take an hour or more to take effect.
The length of your high depends on a variety of factors, such as:
When smoking or vaping cannabis, it quickly enters your bloodstream through your lungs. Within a matter of minutes, you’ll begin to feel the effects of cannabis kick in. These effects peak around 10 minutes after consumption and can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, or up to 8 hours depending on the potency of the strain.
Eating cannabis products can take a while as your digestive system metabolizes it when you eat it. Edibles take anywhere from 30-60 minutes to show their effect but can take up to 2 hours. The high will usually peak around 2 hours after consumption but can last as long as 24 hours.
Dabbing is a method of smoking highly concentrated cannabis through a special pipe or dab rig. Dabs have a higher THC content than other forms of cannabis, making the high almost instantaneous. The effect can last similar to smoking cannabis between 1-3 hours. If using a high THC level concentrate, you could feel the effects for up to 24 hours.
While you can’t remove all the effects of Cannabis on your body, only time can do that, there are a few things you can try to reduce the effects.
First, try taking a nap! If you haven’t smoked so much that you already passed out, sleeping can help you relax and gives your body time to process and eliminate the cannabis from your body. You can also try using CBD, which may sound counterintuitive, however CBD has been known to counteract the effects of THC. CBD has a calming effect that may help dull your high.
You can also try eating a lemon peel. Lemons contain compounds that have a calming effect that can help you through your cannabis high. Ingesting the lemon peel can counteract some of the psychoactive effects of THC which will help calm you down. Alternatively, you can steep the lemon peels in hot water for a few minutes and drink the water.
